When we’re young time seems to pass very slowly.

I can vividly remember waiting at the bus stop for my school bus to arrive while I day dreamed about the shiny new tennis racquet I so desperately wanted for my birthday.

Even now I can see myself stood there starring into ’space’ acting out an ‘ace’, playing a drop shot and slamming in a ’smash’.

Day after day for what felt like months I would wonder in excitement about the new racquet.

Yet having spoken to my Mum about the exact same topic we know I only started tennis lessons a few days before my birthday.

Time seems to take forever to pass when we’re young. I’m sure you have your own memories – I have many more.

But as we get older, things seem to speed up.

As soon as Christmas is past, New Year is over and in the blink of an eye the clock have gone forward and before we know it it’s summer time again.

Sadly, for most people it kind of just passes them by… Time, their lives, their potential. Whisked away second by second with little more than a passing ‘nod’.

But for forward thinking, success hungry business owners like you an me, TIME is our MOST important asset.

There is nothing MORE important in your journey to achieving all your goals than what you do with your time.

And not just business.

But time with your family, time doing things you love, time to relax, time to think.

And there are more people out to STEAL your time than you can shake a stick at!

Employees asking endless questions they could answer themselves, endless telephone call interruptions, checking email, opening the post, going shopping, family texting your phone and on and on.

Here’s something that might scare you…

It’s time to put REAL value on your time….

So, how much do you want to earn a year?

The figure isn’t important but this exercise is…

Now what we’re going to do is divide the amount of take home money you want each year by the number of working hours that are available…

I won’t go into how we calculate this but there are a LOT less than 365 working days in a year…

The average with holidays removed (and if you want a lot of holidays you’d better take some more hours out) is 241 days.

If we assume just a 7 hour day then you have a very generous 1,687.

So… How much are you really worth?

Really?

If your baseline is half a million pounds a year then every single hour you work needs to be worth £296…

EVERY single hour.

That mean everytime your staff interrupt you for just 15 minutes it’s costing you £74…

Everytime you spend an hour away from your business getting the dinner it’s costing you £296.

This may seem a harsh way to look at things.

BUT, unless YOU put a REAL value on YOUR time, what YOU are worth then I can assure you on ONE very simple thing.

NOBODY and I mean NOBODY else will either.

So do this exercise now.

Decide how much you think you are worth, calculate what you need to earn every working hour and then guess what.

Make SURE you ONLY spend your time on things that help you reach that target.

This one exercise alone can CATAPULT you to success you’ve olny dreamed of…

Good morning…

It’s 6:01am and I’m sat in our lounge, fresh coffee, 4 of our cats and the TV on with the build up to the F1 Grand Prix Qualifying session on in the background.

There’s been an awful lot of ‘argument’ this week over the technicalities of rear diffusers on some of the Formula One cars. 

Some claim a few of the teams are using ‘illegal’ diffusers to give them the extra edge.

However, an investigation has ruled these diffusers are ‘legal’.

What’s really happened is some of the teams have simply developed better cars are the others are ’sick to the stomach’ and their only reaction is to try to make them look like cheats.

Well!

Today I have a sneaky ‘trick’ you can use to STEAL your salon and spa competitors clients!!

Best of all it’s FREE!

Let me ask you a question…

How many of your salon and spa competitors (whether that be local, regional or national) have gone bust due to recession or are about to go bust??

Most likely quite a few….

Would you like to steal a big chunk of their old clientelle – for FREE??

Here’s how to do it…

1. Identify all your salon and spa competitors past and present.

2. Draw up a list of all the ones who have gone bust or closed business.

3. Look up their old telephone number.

4. Call BT or whoever and tell them you want a new number and the number is that of your OLD competition…

5. Keep track of your competitors still in business and ‘pounce’ as soon as one goes bust or closes it’s doors…

Not always, but in some cases you’ll be able to get the number.

Now what happens?

Well, all the old clients of the salon or spa that’s gone bust will call the old companies number and get you. PLUS, they’ll likely have loads of historical advertising out in the marketplace such as Yellow Pages, flyers etc that will get new people calling on a regular basis.

When you answer he phone simply introduce your salon/spa and let them know (in the best way possible) the old salon/spa has gone bust BUT, you offer even better treatments, products, services etc…

Pretty sneaky huh!

But as I always say… I can’t show you one way to generate 100 new salon/spa clients (well actually I probably can) but I can show you 100 ways to generate one new client…

“10 Ways to Swamp Your Salon or Spa Website With Visitors…”

#1: Articles - write short, informative articles about how YOU and your salon or sp can SOLVE people’s problems and help look great and feel even better. The submit them to the top article directories (ezinearticles, articelbase, goarticles and more).

#2: Press releases - YEP! Press releases are great for generating online traffic (and if you know what you’re doing, a LOT of FREE publicity offline too). Submit them to the top press release distribution site (NOTE: you need to find purely online distribution sites like prweb AND others which have a closer relationship with journalists).

#3: BLOGGING - you need a salon/spa blog! No time to go into depth here – but trust me…

#4: Pay per click advertising - e.g. Google Adwords… To my knowledge there is NO faster way to generate bundles of ready to go, targeted traffic to your salon or spa website than pay per click. Only downside is it COSTS MONEY. And you MUST know what you’re doing or you WILL waste a LOT of money. I’ve used pay per click to generate millions of visitors to my sites and have never failed yet to earn at least 3 times what I spend. #5: Joint Ventures – Overlooked by most because they THINK they are hard to setup. Yes, you need to know who you are partnering with is trustworthy but they’re easier than you think to make work. The premise is simple. Someone other than you owns a list of customers and prospects in a complementary market to you. You mail an offer to their list and they take a slice of the profits (there are a lot of other ways to cut the deal too)…

#6: Videos - Youtube, Viddler, Google Video and hundreds more video sites are frequented by the people who buy from you… Video marketing is POWERFUL…

#7: Podcasts – This one sounds a little technical. In essence you created an audio track about your topic and publish it to iTunes and more, people find it, listen to it, trust you (if the content is good)  and go to your salon/spa sites… For a local salon/spa this may be a little bit of ‘overkill’. BUT, if you are looking to build a national or international business, this is ‘genius’…

#8: Social Bookmarking - Like just bookmarking a webpage on your browser BUT, millions of other people can see what has been bookmarked and therefore see what is popular… If they see something they are looking for that has been social bookmarked by someone else then they’ll have a peek and often head to your site…

#9: OFFLINE - Ahh! I hear you cry… Well don’t! Offline is an awesome way to drive online traffic. Everything from making sure your salon/spa website is on  your flyers, postcards, business cards, brochures etc to dedicated offline campaigns to generate online traffic.

#10: Social Networking - Ummmm have you got a LONG time? No time to digress here but I’ve yet to find anyone who has made any real money using social networking (other than people selling info on how to make money from social networking). YES, there are applications for social networking which can be useful and yes, it can drive traffic. BUT, by golly it can take a LOT of your time (and there are in my opinion better ways to spend your time).

There’s 10…I’ve got over a hundred more up my sleeve…

Yesterday I spoke a little about the ’sorry state of affairs’ we find our society in right now.

It used to be that ‘children spoke when spoken to’, teenagers respected their elders, your credibility as a business owner was dependant on your ‘track record’ and your success as a business owner was dependent purely on delivery of high quality products and services to the marketplace.

Nowadays, we are driven by something a little different.

We are in a ‘Celebrity Driven’ society.

Now, I actually ‘jest’ a little when I said our society was in a ’sorry state of affairs’ because there are of course two sides to a coin and a lot of GOOD things are all around us right now.

But whether we like it or not, one of the fastest paths to ‘Ultimate Power and Attraction’ is CELEBRITY.

Just take a peek around.

We’ve got X-Factor, Britain’s got talent, Fame Academy, Big Brother, that terrible program about people stuck in a jungle, Dancing on Ice, Strictly Come Dancing…. We’ve even got ‘foul mouthed’ aggressive chefs achieving world wide domination via the ‘F’ word (and don’t get me wrong, Gordon Ramsay has me in stitches).

SO…

While celebrity status does of course mean you open yourself up for ‘attack’ from all sides by anyone wishing to have a ‘pop’ (and that’ll happen anyway as your success rises) it brings with it a HUGE dose of INSTANT credibility, STATUS, and a WOPPING amount of new salon/spa business, opportunity and for many excitement.

So how can you become a celebrity business owner (or individual if you wish).

Outside of giving up all dignity, stripping butt naked and running round the Big Brother house bashing ya ass with a tea strainer, there are fortunately some others options.

And best news is those other options can still keep your dignity, integrity, self worth intact and your parents still talking to you.

Here are two of the best:

1. Become a published author… OR, become a SELF PUBLISHED author. And before you start shouting ‘Henry! I can’t write for toffee’, or ‘how’s that going to help??’, let me make something crystal clear. You KNOW something about what you do which other salon/spa owners, people looking at the industry, beauticians, etc, etc would like to know… And you CAN write a book about what you know. Now, of course just writing a few pages isn’t enough, you gotta sell ‘em too. 2. Use the very people that plaster the celebs all over their covers everyday. THE PRESS. There are endless opportunities for you to get local, national and international exposure for your business and yourself. But you gotta know how to get it. Simply sending out a press release letting journalists know ‘Jo Bloggs has been promoted to Salon Manager ‘aint gonna do it. Nor is ‘XYZ Salon Introduces Spray Tanning’… You have to ask yourself ‘WHAT IS IN IT FOR THE JOURNALIST?’ Remember, they are sat their everyday sifting through mountains of press releases looking for something RELEVANT and INTERESTING for their audience. They don’t really give a HOOT about you and your salon or spa…

And there are a LOT more ways to catapult yourself, your salon or spa to celebrity status.

And keep in mind, when I talk about celebrity status I DO NOT necessarily mean ‘front page news’. Celebrity status in YOUR industry, YOUR local area, within YOUR group of prospects and clients can be just as lucrative…

So…

It’s Time to GIve In

We have two choices… Either get really wounds up and down right cross about the celebrity driven society we live in OR, embrace it and use it to our advantage…
