Hey!
Henry here with a quite frankly BRILLIANT story from our time in hospital while baby Henry was born.
I’m sat in my home office with baby Henry in his little rocking chair wotsit while he gurgles and squeaks away. He was born just over two weeks ago (for those that don’t know).
My first two weeks as a Dad have been the BEST of my life. I’ve got seven cats – who I love. But this little chap is something else!
Anyway, the reason for this post is to tell you about just how SNEAKY the NHS are and how BRILLIANTLY one particular company involved in the ‘birth of babies’ are at making money!
And before you say – “this has nothing to do with me…. it does”.
Now, if you’re in the UK and have had a baby you’ll be well aware of the FREE ‘Bounty’ baby packs you get through pregnancy and after birth. They’re packed full of vouchers and free nappies and gear…
Everyone loves a freebie! And of course the idea is to get you hooked on a particular brand that you stick to with your little one.
Well… Henry was born at 10:13pm on the 8th Feb.
At 2:30am, Tracey was popped in a wheelchair to be take up to the ward and they announced.
“SORRY! No dads allowed overnight!”
No warning – just out of the blue… I understand but poor Tracey was more than a little tired and stressed after losing lots of blood and giving birth.
I head home full of worry and returned at 8:20am the next day (I was allowed in at 8:30am).
Baby and Henry were fine!
Phew.
We settled down in the hospital and began to get acquainted to our new arrival (he’s very advanced for his age…. or at least that’s what I tell everyone. I’m sure I’m going to be one of those very annoying dads…).
Around midday a very smartly dressed, friendly lady popped her head aound the curtain and to say hello and congratulate us on such a beautiful baby.
Big smiles all round of course.
She then said “Oh – and I have your free baby packs here”.
She passed us two nice sized bags packed full of baby wipes, nappies, creams and all sorts.
After explaining all the lovely freebies we had and getting to know us a little (and complementing us on our new arrival over and over) she said:
“By the way, I’m a photographer and take pictures of new born babies for Mum and Dad to treasure”
“Would you like one of baby Henry?”
To which our answer was of course!
She then pulled back the bed space curtain to reveal a very nice trolley decorated in lots of new born baby pictures and a big PC monitor on the top.
The way the trolley positioned meant that our eye was immediately drawn to a large canvas print of a very pretty new born.
“Why don’t I take a quick pic of Henry she said to see what the light is like in here?”
“No obligation – let’s just see if we can get a nice one”.
To which our response was “of course”…
She placed a lovely blanket down, got baby Henry in a position just like the baby on the large canvas and snapped a shot.
It immediatelly appeared on the PC screen above the trolley in glorious colour. And quite frankly he is just as handsome as the new born on the picture was pretty (I know, I know…). We then spent about 15 minutes taking lots of pics to find the best one.
Our natural question then was to ask “How much are the pictures?”
She span the troley round to see is ‘behind’ and reveal another collage of all sort of sizes of photos with keyrings and all sorts.
“Well she said – this set here is £50 (I can’t remember the exact prices but you’ll get the jist) and you get bla, bla, bla.
And there was a lot.
“Ah” said Tracey. “But what about the large canvas prints – they’re lovely”.
“Well she said – they’re £100 pounds for the large one and £80 for the smaller one – but if you bu the other pack you get £30 off AND you get a set of 4 further colour prints free”.
My brain began to click – ‘what an awesome sales process”.
- She caught us at EXACTLY the right time.
- She gave us a lot of freebies (which meant we naturally wanted to return the ‘favour’.
- She built a lot of rapport.
- She demonstrated her product (by taking an immediate picture and putting it on the screen).
- She got us invloved in choosing the picture.
- She showed RESULTS in advance (by showing the canvaas print etc).
- AND she had a very clear and attractive upsell/crosS-sell system which meant you’d be a ‘fool’ not to spend at least £100 odd.
Needless to say she left that day with over £150 in her pocket and Tracey and I with big smiles on our faces and two bags full of freebies… She also had the ability to take all sorts of payment types THERE and then live.
What she demonstrated was a VERY, VERY effective and very, very profitable sales process.
Had she not done what she did (and in that order) and instead just said “Do you want some pictures of ya baby” then quite frankly she would have left empty handed.
So – big round of applause for BOUNTY.
AND – a big lesson for all of us.
Your SALES PROCESS an and will make the difference between you going home with LOTS of money in your ocket and very little if not none..
TASK – Sit down TODAY and see just how you can use her process in your salon or spa.
I KNOW you can!
And you MUST!

3 Price List Changes Guaranteed to Make You Money
By · CommentsI’m not a fan of beauty salon price lists or prices list for any spa or nail salon or hair salon.
In fact if I could I’d get you to do away with them COMPLETELY.
Salon price lists are a very bad way to show what you do.
And most are even worse than that!
Put two beauty salon price lists side by side and too often the only way you’re left to distinguish between the two is by PRICE!!!
AAAGGHHH!!!
That puts you in a really weak position!
Competing on price is NOT where you want to be.
Look.
I don’t have time here to tell you about the alternatives – it’s a BIG story and requires a number of changes.
Changes that elevate you above ALL your competition and allow you to charge as much as 500% or more than your closest competitor.
BUT, I know I’ll struggle to convince you to get rid of that awful price list so here are THREE things you can do to atl least minimse the damage caused by your price list…
1. Don’t just list your treatmens. INLCUDE BENEFITS. How will they make people look and feel? Why are they different?
2. Do NOT INCLUDE prices. Make them ASK you what they are. That gives you the chance to tell them why you’re different and substantiate the price.
3. Include a MONEY BACK GUARANTEE! This is the fastest way to separate you from your competition and boost sales. And as long as you’re doing a good job, the bump in sales will FAR outweigh refunds..
There are tons more I could give you but do these three and TELL ME HOW YOU GET ON.
Dedicated to your success,
Henry.

Video: How to Use Twitter to Grow Your Salon or Spa
By · Comments
Have you ever wondered about ‘what’ Twitter is or ‘how’ you can use it to find and keep clients.
When Twitter first arrived I was as skeptical as a salmon looking at a plastic fly which kept landing on the water surface onend of a piece of string.
I’m not a fan of the latest greatest whiz-bang technolgy UNLESS it helps you.
So, I spent a few months doing some Twitter investigation and testing and discovered a really easy system which allows you to attract and keep clients using Twitter for free!
It’s not for everyone – certainly not for those shy of learning some new things.
For those who’d like to ‘unleash’ the power of the ‘Twit’ I’ve posted a new video training on the Salon Marketing Club.
Members have immediate access – non members can see it free too.
It’s all here:
